About Ucluelet
Ucluelet is still largely an "undiscovered gem"-- it is the gateway to Barkley Sound and home of the Wild Pacific Trail. There is an authenticity to that 'Living on the Edge' slogan here.
Ucluelet boasts one of the largest resident Grey Whale populations on the coast. The peninsula is situated at the northwest corner of the Barkley Sound allowing us immediate access to Humpback Whales as they travel past during thier annual migration north. Transient Killer Whales (Orca) pods pass through these waters every few weeks.
Ucluelet is only a 15 minute drive to world famous Long Beach in Pacific Rim National Park. Rocky outcrops and sandy beaches dot the shoreline between Ucluelet and Tofino. Publicly accessable trails, beaches, wharfs, waterfront, the viewpoints require no special invitation and the parking is free. With Tofino still 30 minutes north, Ucluelet also requires a shorter driving time to and from the Nanaimo ferry.
The people here are friendly and very relaxed. With less traffic, a friendly atmosphere and a peaceful harbour, Ucluelet ensures you will experience the remoteness of a small, still unspoiled fishing village.
Ucluelet's is known historically as a deep sea port, and it has a intriguing First Nations' history. In more recent times, Ucluelet's official shift to tourism has led to an expansion of recreational activities, fishing, dining and shoppping offered in the area.
The word Ucluelet means Safe Harbour. Aquamarine Adventures' Seafari Tours leave from the "Boat Basin", Ucluelet's Small Craft Harbour.
Reservations can be made; online, by phone or in person at our harbour office. We recommend booking in advance, early in your stay for added flexibilty with weather and whale viewing conditions.
